The Fox Pizza Bus began as the dream of two young entrepreneurs to bring a mobile dining experience to Los Angeles. Founded in 2009 by Chef Mike Fox & event planner Jordan Hieshetter, the company debuted as the first mobile wood fired restaurant in the country-all on an imported double decker bus.
Our story has grown over the past few years. What started as an idea in 2008 turned into a first of its kind, a cusp of a huge trend, a 2 year-long permitting battle, a learning process and one heck of a ride. Catering together for private events and clients in Scottsdale and Los Angeles since 2007, we decided to put our business on wheels and build out a mobile restaurant. After importing a double decker bus from Scotland and designing the plans, the Fox Pizza Bus was born in 2009 and went through one lengthy & strenuous road to becoming a fully legal catering vehicle. Since then, our services have grown to include wood fired oven cooking classes and demonstrations across Southern California to full pig roasts and outdoor, live fire cooking.
As always, we are committed to sourcing local, organically grown produce and we know each and every one of our farmers personally. We use only pastured, sustainably raised meat from local, family ranches and have seen out the process from slaughter to butchering our own meats in the most humane way possible. Services include private chef services, full service catering, mobile catering with our one-of-a-kind wood fired bus or la caja china, drop-off catering and wood fired oven cooking classes. Serving ware is compostable or sustainably made.
Chef Mike Fox
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Fox grew up tasting the varied culinary landscape of the city. Working professionally in the hospitality industry for over a decade, Fox trained in Santa Barbara and at Le Cordon Bleu’s Scottsdale Culinary Institute while spending stints in Italy, London & China. Taking his experience cooking in esteemed fine dining establishments and work as a private chef & caterer in Santa Barbara, Scottsdale and Los Angeles, Fox brought his love of wood fired food to life in the Fox Pizza Bus.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hieshetter co-founded the concept of the Fox Pizza Bus. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara in Communication, Hieshetter began professionally planning non-profit and charity events before working with notable wedding and floral designers in Santa Barbara and Scottsdale. Her experience and passion for events paired with Fox’s culinary skills combined to service private catering clients in the Phoenix and Los Angeles areas. Hieshetter has also successfully competed on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.
